Forget About Cinema!

Director Arantzazu Gomez Bayon never planned on becoming a mother, yet became a mother of two. In the beginning of the film, she explains that the idea of a human being growing inside her was a difficult for her. She sees pregnancy as an experience that prevented her from making movies. In her past, Gomez Bayon attended film festivals, collecting awards. Motherhood changed her life completely.

This artistically ambitious documentary contemplates the joys and sorrows of motherhood, which bringing a new person into the world entails. The collage style combines home videos and archive materials. Among a plethora of cinematic reference points, Finnish audiences can infer the tribute to Erik Blomberg’s movie The White Reindeer.

While life passes by at 24 frames per second, the cinephile director rewinds to past generations and contemplates the ways in which views on parenthood and womanhood have changed. The director was once told to forget about movies, because raising her daughters is the best movie. The viewer is left wondering about the truthfulness of this statement as they leave the theatre.
