Lo and Behold, Reveries of a Connected World

In the beginning there is a word, a word spoken by Werner Herzog. His warm and familiar voice leads us deep into a network of everything, a vast network extending all the way to Mars and beyond.

On his journey of discovery Herzog meets pioneer coders, cosmologists, radiation-sensitive people and robots. Even the Antichrist is mentioned, and reference to the Internet as a stage for evil doesn’t sound so far-fetched, when the claim is uttered by a mother, whose dead daughter was turned into an Internet meme. Transforming thoughts into images, cyber warfare and autonomous AI… All of these are reality today, but the digital revolution has also just begun and no one knows what the future holds.

Mankind is already highly dependent on digital technology, states one of the researchers in the documentary. So much so in fact, that just one powerful gust of the solar winds could crash the stock markets, halt the energy production and cause countless deaths. Better not to think about it, concludes the researcher.

We live in a day, when even the Buddhist monks fall for the digital ghost. Lo and Behold is a healthy reminder that redefining humanity goes hand in hand with the development of technology.
